MICHAEL STEWART couldn’t believe Celtic purchased Reo Hatate for around £1.4million.
The Japanese midfielder arrived in the January window from J-League side Kawasaki Frontale and made an immediate impression on his debut against Hibs.
Stewart watched the game for BBC Radio Scotland and was blown away by the new boy’s instant impact.
He told BBC Sportsound: “You look at that first-half performance from Hatate and the guy is a top-class player. There are no two ways about that.
“Celtic have signed an incredibly talented player.”
The 24-year-old was handed the man of the match award after playing a key role in Celtic’s controlling performance.
Stewart was shocked by the figure paid for Hatate. He added: “You’re kidding me on? Sorry, £1.4m for Hatate? If you can get a player like that for £1.4m, that is incredible.”
