JERMAIN DEFOE appears to be closing in on his next move after leaving Rangers with four clubs south of the border interested in signing the striker.

Former club Sunderland, Ipswich Town, Charlton Athletic and Oxford United are all chasing the 39-year-old and according to Sky Sports, the former England internationalist has coaching offers as well.

The Telegraph are reporting that Defoe has 'held talks' with Oxford with the League One club keen on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

Defoe scored 32 goals in 74 appearances for Rangers before leacing Ibrox earlier this month. He was part of the interim coaching staff when Steven Gerrard joined Aston Villa and has previously outlined his goal to conclude his playing career in front of supporters.
