FORMER Scotland captain Colin Hendry has insisted that Scott Brown should give up the captaincy at Aberdeen because of the midfielder's antics against Rangers over the years.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men were held to a 1-1 draw at Pittodrie on Tuesday night, where Ryan Kent was dismissed for accruing two yellow cards.

The second arrived for a late challenge on Brown from the Ibrox winger, and the Dons skipper couldn't hide his delight as he poked fun at his rival.

It mirrored a previous incident involving Alfredo Morelos when Brown was still a Celtic player, and Hendry reckons the 35-year-old's behaviour is unbecoming of a club captain.

"That's not what captains do," Hendry told BBC Radio Scotland's Breakfast Show.

"If he wants to do that, and he's done it, he did it with Morelos at Parkhead and he's done it with Ryan Kent.

"The mannerisms afterwards in relation to Morelos when he get sent off, and then when Ryan Kent got sent off.

"Billy McNeill, Paul McStay, Murdo McLeod, Tom Boyd, greatest captain at Aberdeen, Willie Miller - I know it's a different era but would you see them do that? Would you really honestly see them do that?

"What I'm saying is if you want to do that, I've not got a problem. There's players in the game, in the teams that I've played in, will do that.

"But take the armband off, hand it to somebody else and go and do your Robbie Savage stint."
