CELTIC hero Chris Sutton joked Rangers kid Alex Lowry 'nearly caught the ball' as he weighed in on Livingston penalty claims at Ibrox.

The Parkhead favourite was quick to offer his opinion on the incident as Livingston saw Lowry clear off the line from a Jack Fitzwater header.

The Ibrox kid was well positioned on the goalline to prevent a certian Livingston goal with Allan McGregor beaten - but Sutton raised quesitons over his block.

The 18-year-old leaned into the ball with Livingston demanding a penalty, Lowry insisting the ball hit his chest and referee Don Robertson unmoved.

Sharing a clip of the incident, Sutton posted on Twitter: “He nearly caught it (two laughing emojis), never a penalty.”

Rangers went on to claim a hard-fought 1-0 victory with Scott Arfield providing a spark as he lobbed oiver Max Stryjek in with 15 minutes left.

Sportscene pundit Michael Stewart however, disagreed with Sutton as he insisted it would've harsh to penalise Lowry.

He explained: “I think it would have been extremely harsh to give this as a penalty kick.

“He’s at the back post and it looks like it has come off his chest and back into Allan McGregor’s arms.

“The difficulty for the referee is he doesn’t see it at all because he’s blocked by a number of players between himself and the ball.

“For me, Alex Lowry leans in with his chest and it hits his chest.

“I don’t think his arm is at any point in contact with the ball. For me it is not a penalty kick.”
