ALLAN McGREGOR had an afternoon to forget in the Highlands on Saturday as a couple of errors from the veteran goalkeeper allowed Ross County to snatch a point in a thrilling 3-3 draw.
But Rangers legend Kenny Miller is adamant that there is no shot-stopper he'd rather see in goal for his old team at Celtic Park on Wednesday night.
The two Glasgow rivals will meet for the second time this season when Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side make the short journey across the city for the top-of-the-table clash, and McGregor's position could be in doubt.
The former Scotland internationalist, who turns 40 on Monday, spilled an early effort against County as Jordan White pounced to level the scores after Amad Diallo's opener.
Regan Charles-Cook then handed Malky Mackay's men the lead when Calvin Bassey mistimed a challenge, leaving McGregor with little chance of stopping the in-form winger.
Goals from James Tavernier and Connor Goldson looked to have Rangers on course for three points when McGregor fumbled a cross in the 96th minute, allowing Matthew Wright to slam the ball home from close range to ensure a share of the spoils for his side.
It is not the first time this season that McGregor's performances have gone under the microscope.
The goalie was blamed for Craig Halkett's equaliser for Hearts via a corner in a 1-1 draw back at Ibrox in October, but Miller feels that the keeper's team-mates must also shoulder their share of the responsibility as he backed his old friend to put a disappointing afternoon behind him.
"Come Wednesday night, there is nobody you’d want in goal other than Allan McGregor," Miller told BBC Scotland. "Like Andy Goram was back in the 90s, he is the one when it's come to these big saves. He's been the one that's had a big, big impact on Rangers winning these games of football.
"I've no doubt he could respond on Wednesday night with that type of performance. He should be in goal, he deserves to be in goal and I don't believe he's done yet.
"He'll decide when he's ready to be done. It might be at the end of the season, it might be at the end of next season. But at the moment, I still think he's got a huge role to play.
"He came out against Hearts, missed a cross and Craig Halkett scored and he had the two mistakes against Ross County.
"He was exposed. Those mistakes didn't necessarily have to happen had the defenders and midfielders done their job properly.
"I can't think of any other time Allan made any real errors. He’s absolutely reliable. I don't think he's done yet.
"It's a flash in the pan, a bad day at the office. For me, it's a huge void to fill and I'm not sure they have that in the building, someone to fill McGregor's shoes yet.
"If you're thinking about dropping him you need to make sure who's coming in can do the same job at the same level and there's not many of these guys about."
