FORMER Rangers defender Craig Moore believes Giovanni van Bronckhorst must look closer to home and reinforce his backroom team with a Scottish coach after the Dutchman's first Old Firm as Rangers manager ended in defeat.

The Premiership champions were thoroughly out-played by their rivals in last night's 3-0 defeat and Moore reckons the influence of an ex-player on the staff at Ibrox would help to get his old team's title bid back on track.

The Australian even offered a three-man shortlist of coaches for Rangers to pursue, arguing that bringing in any one of them would be the 'signing of the season'.

"We talk about potential signings and who is the best signing of the transfer window," he told Go Radio.

"Aaron Ramsey I am sure will do great as will [Amad] Diallo who is still a very young player.

"I think the best signing that Rangers can make right now is getting a Scottish coach in there to support Giovanni [van Bronckhorst] and his backroom staff.

"For me, that would be the best signing of the season and I hope they are not stubborn with this.

"I hope they realise that this is somebody that knows what every ground looks like, what every team looks like, that would have the trust of the playing group and be a fantastic link from that playing group to the manager.

"Get that done and I think that would be the best signing of the season.

"I think it is crucial to being successful at Rangers Football Club.

"I think when you bring in a whole new team that know top flight football. Giovanni knows the club intimately but he has been away a long time.

"You need somebody who has been in amongst it, current - and I have got a shortlist.

"Neil McCann, Barry Ferguson and Kevin Thomson. Go and get one and get them in your building and you’ve got every chance of turning things around very quickly."
