CELTIC skipper Callum McGregor has revealed he has spoken to Kris Boyd regarding his comments about his facial injury.

The former Rangers striker had questioned how the Scotland international played the 3-0 Old Firm match "without anyone testing the face mask" in his Scottish Sun column.

His comments read: “Look at Celtic. Callum McGregor played with a fractured cheekbone.

"The fact he managed to get through the 90 minutes without anyone testing out that face mask is another story, but his commitment to the team was tremendous.”

This sparked an angry response from Celtic as they revealed they were addressing comments made by the Scottish football pundit.

Now, McGregor himself has revealed that Boyd has reached out to speak to him about his comments - reflecting that he made a poor choice of words.

The player now considers the matter closed.

Speaking to the media ahead of Celtic's clash with Aberdeen, McGregor said: “When you read it at first it doesn’t make great reading. Since then he has reached out, we’ve a chat about it and we’ll move on

“He had realised it’s a poor choice of words and we put it to bed”.

Ex-Kilmarnock attacker Boyd would go on to clarify his comments in a later piece last week in the wake of the Old Firm.

He insisted there was no suggestion he wanted a Rangers player to "intentionally try and hurt the midfielder".

In the updated response, he insisted any suggestion that was his intention in his column was "absolutely and unequivocally NOT the case".

Boyd wrote: "I think it’s right that I add some context and clarification to a reference I made about Callum McGregor.

"Some have taken that line to mean I wanted one of the Rangers players to intentionally try and hurt the midfielder.

"However, that is absolutely and unequivocally NOT the case.

"It was simply meant as a criticism of the Rangers players for their failure to get close to McGregor."
