GIOVANNI VAN BRONCKHORST has challenged Rangers to continue raising their standards after easing to a comfortable victory over Hibernian at Ibrox.

The champions followed up on the 5-0 win over Hearts on Sunday by completing an Edinburgh double that keeps them just one point adrift of Celtic in the Premiership.

A James Tavernier penalty and strike from Alfredo Morelos were enough on the night as Shaun Maloney's side caused Rangers few problems and continued their miserable recent run.

Morelos now has 16 goals to his credit this term and Van Bronckhorst is encouraged with their attacking nous as the Light Blues continue to recover from their Old Firm horror show last midweek.

Van Bronckhorst told RangersTV: "I think we started the game very well, with the penalty and other chances we created. We put a lot of pressure and energy in the game and won a lot of balls in their half, particularly first half.

"The overall performance was really good. It was 2-0 but it could have been more. It was good for us because we needed the points.

"Of course it gives you confidence. We had to react last Sunday which we did in a good manner.

"For us it was very important to continue that way of playing and the intensity we want in games.

"We have to raise our standards in every game. This is the level we want and now we rest to play on Saturday again in the Cup.

"We know his (Morelos) threat in front of goal. He has scored three goals in the two games since he came back.

"Also you can see we can play through him. When teams are making pressure on our defence, he is always available to connect with midfield and receive the ball.

"Then we can get our wingers into spaces where they can attack the defenders.

"Today, with Ryan (Kent), the penalty came in that area. The threat we had on both sides really pleased me."
