CHARLIE MCCANN is determined to build on his Rangers debut after thanking boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst for giving him his Light Blues bow at Annan.

The midfielder replaced Amad Diallo for the final 20 minutes of the Scottish Cup clash as the champions eased into the last eight thanks to goals from Filip Helander, Kemar Roofe and Fashion Sakala at Galabankk.

Fellow Auchenhowie graduates Leon King and Alex Lowry were also given more game time after earning their spots in Van Bronckhorst's first team squad in recent weeks.

McCann made the move to Ibrox from Manchester United last summer and has now been rewarded with his debut following a string of impressive performances for the B Team this term.

And the Republic of Ireland youth international is confident he can go from strength to strength as he seeks to establish himself under Van Bronckhorst's guidance in the coming months.

McCann told RangersTV: "Buzzing. I have worked hard for this moment and I have got to appreciate what the boys has done in giving us young lads chances. Obviously it is only the start but it is a great feeling to make your debut for this club.

"It is what you strive for and it is great to get the opportunity. You have to us every minute you can to get better and I feel that is what we are doing. It is all thanks to the boss for giving us opportunities like that.

"It is crucial [to work hard]. I have got kick on now and try and get more and that is what I want. It is great to get the first one out of the way and hopefully there will be more. I have just got to keep working hard every day."
