GIOVANNI VAN BRONCKHORST has backed Aaron Ramsey to prove his worth and make an Ibrox impact during a defining week for Rangers

The midfielder was left out of the starting line-up for the Europa League tie with Braga on Thursday night as he was dropped just days after scoring on his Old Firm debut against Celtic

Ramsey didn’t get off the bench at the Municipal Stadium as Van Bronckhorst introduced Joe Aribo, Borna Barisic and Kemar Roofe in an ultimately futile attempt to get back on level terms in the first leg loss.

The Ibrox boss confirmed post match that Ramsey was fit and available for selection and he could now feature on Sunday as the champions return to Premiership action at St Mirren.

The Welsh international has struggled to make his presence felt since his headline move from Juventus earlier this term but Van Bronckhorst has no doubt his talent will come to the fore as Rangers gear up for the Braga return and Scottish Cup semi-final showdown with Celtic next week.

Van Bronckhorst told Sky Sports: “He's had a difficult period. He's playing more games lately for us and also for Wales, so I'm really happy that Aaron is back and available.

"Of course, we know his qualities. We have a lot of midfield players available now and this is the first game out of two, and next week's going to be starting on Sunday with St Mirren, then of course with the second game of this tie and the cup semi final.

"It's a busy period. Of course, the qualities of Aaron, we can use.

“We know his quality. You see what's needed for games and you also have to do your game management and look also a little bit ahead.

"That's what we're doing right now. Aaron will for sure have his game time."
