THIS is the moment that former Rangers and Kilmarnock star Dean Shiels lost the rag with a referee at the weekend.

The ex-Hibs player is manager of Dungannon Swifts in Northern Ireland.

They were defeated 1-0 by Carrick Rangers in the NIFL Premiership play-off on Saturday.

And while the result would have been the biggest disappointment of the day for the 37-year-old, Shiels was left fuming by a foul on the half-way line which he felt was worth a sending off - as he saw the incident VERY differently to his opposition in the dugout.

Footage has emerged of Shiels' blast at the matchday officials, as he appeared to channel the same sort of energy that Scottish football had seen with his dad Kenny some ten-years ago.

The clip starts by showing a late challenge from one of the Carrick Rangers forwards on the Dungannon centre-half.

The tackle appeared to be nothing serious, with both players looking fine once the whistle had gone for a foul.

But Swifts boss Shiels viewed the incident completely differently, though - as a touchline cam caught him giving his views to the fourth official.

The former attacking midfielder then went on a hilarious rant at the man in the middle, as he bellowed that the Carrick player was "bluffing" to avoid a red card.

Immediately after the foul, Shiels could be heard screaming for it.

The next clip shows him saying to the fourth official: "Hiy ref, hiy! He's just kicked him right in the head. He's f*****g kicked him right in the head."

Murmurs of discontent could then be heard growing in the opposing bench.

Shouts of: "He didn't mean that Dean," were audible.

A member of Carrick's management team was then seen to attempt to calm Shiels down.

He jumped in: "Dean, Dean - he didn't kick him in the head, wise up son."

Shiels could then be heard saying: "Ref you know it."

Then back on camera, he added: "He's bluffing, he's bluffing the big man."

"He didn't kick him on the head," was the retort from several of the Carrick backroom team.

Shiels again said: "He kicked him. Maybe in the neck.

"Ref, ref, you know it's him. He's already booked and he's bluffing. It's at least a yellow, maybe a red."

Shiels is following in his dad's footsteps by taking to the touchline as a manager.

Kenny Shiels of course had a successful spell in Scottish football with Killie.

The Northern Irishman guided the Ayrshire side the League Cup in 2012, as they defeated Celtic 1-0 in the final at Hampden - in which Dean played in.

Shiels Snr is currently the manager of Northern Ireland's women's team.

Dean retired from playing in 2019 after a short spell with Colraine.

He has helped his dad out with the NI women's side by working as assistant under him.
