RANGERS and Glasgow City stayed on course for a likely SWPL 1 title showdown on May 8 with wins over Hibernian and Spartans. Both sides have just four games remaining and Rangers lead the defending champions by five points.

Hibs had five of their top players missing because of injuries and suspensions, but still managed to contain Rangers in the first half at Auchenhowie. It was a different story in the second 45 as the home side cut loose to run out 5-0 winners.

Striker Kirsty Howat opened the scoring four minutes into the second half and doubled the advantage on the hour with a fine long range effort. Chantelle Swaby scored the third, with substitute Megan Bell adding two further late goals.

Glasgow City's 4-0 win against Spartans at Ainslie Park was achieved in the opposite manner. Ode Fulutudilu got the goal of the game after just eight minutes, the South African forward collecting the ball just inside the Spartans half and driving forward before beating Rachel Harrison from the edge of the box.

The visitors were three up after 31 minutes through Lauren Davidson and a headed own goal from Robyn McCafferty, but a much stronger Spartans second half performance contained City to just a further Davidson goal.

Third place Celtic beat Partick Thistle 2-0 at Petershill Park. Top scorer Charlie Wellings got the first just after the half hour and added the second midway through the second half.

Hearts beat Aberdeen 1-0 at Balmoral Stadium, with Aimee Anderson scoring the only goal. In the Saturday match, bottom club Hamilton Accies notched their only win since the opening day of the season when they beat Motherwell 1-0 in the first-ever Lanarkshire derby played at Fir Park.
