GIOVANNI van Bronckhorst has revealed there is no news on any agreement for a contract extension for Connor Goldson.

The defender - a £3million signing from Brighton in 2018 - is currently contracted until the end of this season.

Speculation has mounted that Goldson may leave Rangers in the summer when his contract expires but there has been no official confirmation either way.

And asked today whether there was any news on Goldson's future at Ibrox, Van Bronckhorst stated there wasn't any update.

He explained: "There’s no news.

"We’re working in the last weeks of the season and we are fully focused on performing on the pitch so no new news."

And despite the doubt over where Goldson will play his future next season, Van Bronckhorst previously insisted it wasn't negatively impacting the player.

“I’ve never experienced in my coaching career when a player is out of contract that it affects them,” said Van Bronckhorst earlier this month. “It’s a circumstance that’s happening a lot. Connor is handling it really well.

“He’s performing well and it doesn’t have a negative influence on him and it definitely hasn’t had a negative influence on me.

“It’s just the way it is in football where you have to perform no matter what. Especially in a club the size of Rangers. He’s been doing that and winning games to bring success to this club.”

Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson also previously revealed Rangers are not resigned to losing the defender.

He told Sky Sports in February:  “The focus has all been on the last dozen football games, European games, and Scottish Cup. We're not resigned to losing him.

"I know Ross (Wilson) is having regular conversations with all the players whose contracts are expiring in the summer and that's something that will be addressed in the coming months.

“I'm quite philosophical about how these things work. Players come in and sign a contract and they've committed for that time. If they serve their time and that's what the club has signed up to as well then that's fine.

"If someone leaves prior to their contract expiring and we get some revenue then again that's something everybody is happy with. I get the noise that can sometimes follow these things but we just have to deal with what's in front of us.”
