CONNOR GOLDSON loves being at Rangers and would want to stay in the future, claims Alan Hutton.

However, the former Ibrox star reckons the rewards on the table for Goldson sticking with Rangers are where the negotiation issues lie.

The English defender looks to have played his last match for Rangers, as Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side lifted the Scottish Cup with a 2-0 win over Hearts last week.

The centre-half's deal expires in the coming weeks, with a return to England looking increasingly likely.

van Bronckhorst last week admitted himself that there's only a "small" chance Goldson will remain at the club beyond this summer.

And Hutton has revealed, having spoken to Goldson on a few occasions, why he thinks the player has failed to agree on a new contract.

He told Football Insider: "He is one of the main men in the squad. It’s quite as simple as that. He’s the vice-captain, a guy who plays week in, week out, he’s always fit and a leader on the pitch.

“It’s one of those ones where he probably wants to stay at the club. After speaking to him a few times myself, I know that he loves being there and he wants to be there in the future.

“But you have to reward these players for what they’ve given the club over the last X amount of seasons. I think that’s the sticking point at this moment in time.”
