CHRISTOPHER JULLIEN has returned to Glasgow as reports emerged claiming a proposed deal between Schalke and Celtic has fallen through.

The French defender, 29, returned from injury last season but rarely featured on his comeback under Ange Postecoglou.

Jullien made just one appearance last term - against Raith Rovers in the Premier Sports Cup - after returning from a long-term knee injury.

The stopper had flown to Germany for a medical with Schalke ahead of a proposed move to the Bundesliga club.

However, after a medical and further talks with the club Jullien has returned to Glasgow after failing to agree personal terms with Schalke.

Commentator Derek Rae explained on Twitter: "NEW: Christopher Jullien has flown back to Glasgow.

"The proposed deal between Schalke & Celtic appears to have fallen through.

"As mentioned yesterday, extensive athletic & medical checks & there still were outstanding conversations to be had.

"It was these final conversations that proved the death knell for the deal.

"The clubs had agreed but Schalke & the player ultimately couldn’t come together on terms."

And transfer insider Fabrizio Romano added: "No agreement between Chris Jullien and Schalke 04 on personal terms after the medical tests yesterday. He already came back to Glasgow. #transfers

"Celtic will now negotiate with other clubs to find a solution, deal still open."
