GIOVANNI VAN BRONCKHORST has labelled Connor Goldson as one of the 'pillars' of his side after he committed his future to Rangers ahead of the new term.

The defender put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal at Ibrox to give Van Bronckhorst a huge boost heading into the upcoming Premiership title race and European campaign.

Goldson this week opened his heart on the decision to extend his stay in Glasgow as he opted against a return to England and a potential switch to the Premier League.

And Van Bronckhorst is delighted to have the 29-year-old on board once again as he continues his preparations for another shot at the silverware at home and abroad.

Van Bronckhorst said: "Of course it is going to be more difficult the more players that come to the end of their contract and Connor was becoming a free agent.

"I think he did fantastic for the team last season and I was really happy that he chose to stay on.

"Of course he had the possibility to go to another club and the Premier League is a big league for everyone.

"I think also Connor felt what he has now at Rangers, everything in his life as well.

"I think in the end he wanted to continue his career here instead of going to another team and I am happy because he is one of the pillars of this team."
