CONNOR GOLDSON insists John Souttar will become an "unbelievable" signing for Rangers despite his difficult debut against Livingston.

The central defender - signed on a free transfer from Hearts - was given a tough start to his Rangers career with Joel Nouble proving a handful to deal with at the Tony Macaroni.

Souttar came under fire for his defending at Livingston's opener as Nouble outmuscled the Scotland international before chipping over Jon McLaughlin.

But Goldson is certain Souttar will show his quality as he slammed the criticism aimed at his centre-back partner following the debut outing.

Speaking to the press this morning, Goldson said: "I’ve been really impressed with Souttar. You see his quality every day in training.

"I was really disappointed on Saturday seeing a lot of criticism after one game, I’ve been there myself I have no doubts at all he will be an unbelievable signing for this football club.

"John is an international player and we know how good a player we have signed.

"We know the pressure that comes at Rangers but people can’t judge a player after one game at Livingston which is not the easiest place to go.

"I look forward to playing with him more."
