SIMON FERRY reckons Rangers will progress in the Champions League as he pinpointed the impact of a second leg at Ibrox.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side trail Union Saint-Gilloise 2-0 after the first-leg in Belgium leaving them needing a major performance to make the play-off round.

But Open Goal host Ferry - who came through the Celtic youth ranks - reckons the atmosphere at Ibrox could swing the crucial tie.

Speaking on behalf of Grosvenor Sport, Ferry explained: "Rangers can't afford to lose the second leg and I have no doubt that with the way they played at Ibrox last year, along with the atmosphere, they'll go through."

The Open Goal Broomhill boss then added that Rangers still need a "bedding in period" before they find their best form this season as he drew comparisons with Celtic last term.

Citing major transfer business with Calvin Bassey and joe Aribo leaving the club with a number of incomings, Ferry insisted the squad needs time to gel.

"Rangers can turn it around. Losing Aribo and Calvin Bassey is massive and it'll take time to rebuild. The new players need time to get to know each other and we saw that in the first leg.

"I think it's all about the bedding in period for Rangers. We saw it with Celtic last year and it took them a while to get into their rhythm."
