Celtic cult hero Albert Kidd reckons Aaron Mooy has what it takes to fill the void of legendary Hoops captain Scott Brown.

The 31-year-old joined Ange Postecoglou’s side on a free transfer last month after agreeing a two-year deal and arrives in Glasgow’s east-end with plenty of Premier League experience after spells with Huddersfield and Brighton.

And Kidd, who helped steer the silverware towards Celtic Park in 1986 after netting twice for Dundee to deny Hearts the title, reckons it's a shrewd piece of business by the Hoops.

He told the Scottish Sun: “I know Graham Arnold, the Australia manager, really well.

“The team he’s got is quite limited, in my humble opinion. Aaron will be a key part of the team but he’s got to get his fitness levels right.

“He needs some game time at Celtic. He went to China for a while and did well. But he’s come to a big club in Celtic and he’s got to be at his best.

“He’s always been a good player. He was maybe a bit one-paced, but he keeps the ball really well.

“You can reminisce about Scott Brown being there and keeping the ball for Celtic. Aaron might slot into that role there.

“Rogic is a great ball player and good lad but he’s not a leader. Aaron can hopefully become a Broony — that’s what you need in the middle of the park.”

Postecoglou has also added Australian legend Harry Kewell to his backroom staff at Celtic Park.

Kidd added: “I met Harry on Monday. What a great appointment that is, he’s just an Australian legend

“It will be great for the players to be coached by Harry. Ange inherited the coaches there and didn’t bring in his own guys.

“It’s unusual because you do want your own people working for you. Now he’s got Harry with John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan.

“Harry will have an impact on what Celtic do. He’s a household name and one of the best, if not the best player, Australia has produced.”
