Former Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata has been told he’s free to leave Hertha Berlin after sporting director Fredi Bobic says he doesn't feel he can bring the side 'forward'.
The 31-year-old, who enjoyed a successful four-year spell at the Hoops, winning eight major trophies including consecutive titles, moved to Bundesliga side three years ago.
However, he was stripped of captaincy this summer and has now been told he can leave by manager Sandro Schwartz.
He wasn’t part of the matchday squad as Hertha were beaten by rivals Union Berlin last weekend - and the Belgian international looks to have no future in the German capital.
Bobic made an appearance on Germany's famed Sunday footballing roundtable Doppelpass and commented on Schwarz's decision to drop their former captain Boyata from the squad against Union, admitting that the club were looking to sell the 31-year-old.
"We don't have the feeling that he can help bring us forward at the moment," Bobic said.
"We either sell or he trains so outstandingly that we can't place anyone ahead of him."
