Sky pundit Kris Boyd has leapt to the defence of the broadcaster after a torrent of criticism around a new bid for Scottish football TV rights.

The new proposal is reportedly for £29.5m a season from 2025 to 2029 - a sum that would see the average cost per game DROP as the broadcaster would add 12 more games to their package.

The news unleashed a torrent of discontent on social media platforms as fans moved to slaughter the offer as they put it in context of far bigger deals in other European leagues.

But Boyd, perhaps unsurprisingly, has defended his employer staunchly.

He told The Sun: "It was fantastic to hear news of talks between the SPFL and Sky Sports over an extended TV deal for Scottish football.

"People always have an opinion on Sky and like to jump up and have a moan.

"But over the years, the broadcasting giant is the only one to put their money where their mouth is.

"Sky have served Scottish football well and yet again, it seems the company is willing to guarantee big money to back our game.

"No doubt there will still be rumblings about Sky, but what I will say is that other broadcasters have had the chance to come forward with a better offer.

"And once again, it looks like they are nowhere to be seen."
