BARRY FERGUSON admits Celtic star Jota has enjoyed a stunning start to the Premiership season and he agrees that he could well be the best player in Scotland.

But the Ibrox hero has called for calm insisting that the league campaign is only three games in.

Jota has starred for Celtic in every game so far this term, scoring three goals in each game and as a result, James McFadden explained on Sky Sports that he felt he was the top talent in the league.

He said: "He's a player you just love to watch because he's unpredictable. He can go left, he can go right. He can create chances.

"There is no doubt he has got so much better and that comes from the fact that he's made the decision to come permanent to Celtic. The fact that Celtic have paid the money and showed belief in his as well. There is no doubt he will get better and better.

He then turned to Boyd and added: "And I did watch last week. He's the best player in the league. No doubt about it."

The cheeky dig comes after Boyd had an on-air discussion with Scott Allan regarding the debate.

Boyd had said: “Jota the best player in the league? I’m not too sure about that. Who would I go for? Let’s just say he came back and scored yesterday!”

Having his say tonight on Go Radio, Ferguson said: "After three games, it's easy for me to say it's Jota with the way he has started with his goals and assists. But, we are only three games in.

"There is another 35 games. It could be Kyogo, it could be Callum McGregor, Morelos, Kent, Tillman, who again impressed at the weekend. I think there is a long way to go before we decide the best player in Scotland.

'At this early stage Jota has got off to an absolute flier."
