MARK HATELEY has backtracked on comments suggesting Antonio Colak was a “waste of time”.

The Croatian striker moved to Ibrox this summer and Hateley was quick to give his opinion on the signing after a poor performance against Union.

He said: “Colak, for me, was a waste of time. If Morelos is playing there, the ball goes into him. Colak didn’t demand the ball.”

Colak has since been a vital asset for Rangers and scored the vital goal that booked their spot in the Champions League group stages against PSV last night.

Hateley updated his verdict today as he hailed the striker and he also was quick to not rule out a return for Alfredo Morelos.

He told Sky Sports: "Alfredo is still a big, big part of this set-up and will be needed as the future comes towards us.

"Games are coming fast and furious right now and Alfredo will be a big part of that. I mean, Colak has been an incredible asset for us going forward.

“I was hyper critical of him in the Union (Saint Gilloise) game. I thought his runs were not strong for the side, but I think the players now realise where he is strong - with his movement around the penalty box.”
