Rangers have been given a glamour draw in this season's Champions League group stages.

The Ibrox side will face Ajax, Liverpool and Napoli as they make their return to the competition after 12 years.

But who exactly are the teams Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men will come up against?

Ajax

The current Dutch champions are synonymous with this competition, having won it four times since 1971.

They play at the legendary Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam, which is named after their most famous player.

Gers fans will be aware of one player in particular that the team has after Calvin Bassey joined them during the summer.

It is not just the defender the Light Blues will need to worry about, as the Dutch side also has attacking options aplenty with the likes of Dusan Tadic and Brazilian winger Anthony, although he may end up at Manchester United with old boss Erik Ten Haag. The winger is valued at around €80m.

Ajax reached the quarter-finals of last season's competition.

Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp's side has reclaimed the title of a European giant in recent years.

They won this tournament in 2019 and reached last year's final, losing out to Real Madrid.

Playing at the legendary Anfield, the Reds are serial winners of club football's biggest prize, having been victorious six times.

Top players include Mohammad Salah, Luis Diaz, and Trent Alexander Arnold they have strength in depth all over the pitch. The best team in the group, they will be favourites in all six matches but have started the season poorly. Defeat to Manchester United earlier this week means they have yet to win a Premier League match in three attempts. Don't bet such form will last for long with the quality at their disposal.

Napoli

The Italians came third in last years Serie A title race.

Famed for being the side Diego Maradona played his best football, the team from Naples have never won the Champions League, but did lift the UEFA Cup when the Argentine genius was in his pomp during the eighties.

They play at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium, which is known for its fierce atmosphere and intense ultras.

Managed by Luciano Spatelli, Gli Azzurri (The Blues) have some top talent. This includes striker Victor Osimhen who was named young player of the year in Italy last season after scoring 14 goals and contributing five assists. He's lightning quick as is Mexican winger Hirving Lozano. In midfield, Tanguy Ndombele is a serious talent even if he hasn't shown it at parent club Spurs.
