RANGERS will already face some of the elite names in world football in their Champions League group with Liverpool, Napoli and Ajax in Group A - but it's not outwith the realms of possibility that Cristiano Ronaldo rocks up at Ibrox in European action.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side were drawn the tough but glamourous group in Thursday's UEFA event in Istanbul - with Mo Salah among the huge names ready for an Ibrox showdown.

And according to reports, Ronaldo could be another megastar ready to take on Rangers in the Champions League if he completes a summer move to Napoli.

Ronaldo has been linked with a move to the Serie A side with his playing time limited under Manchester United boss Erik Ten Haag.

The Portugal icon made a substitute appearance in today's win over Southampton but major question marks remain over his Old Trafford future.

One possible move could come in the shape of a transfer to Napoli with United reportedly keen on striker Victor Osimhen.

Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti was quizzed on a move for Ronaldo as part of a swap deal. And while he was highly complimentary of Ronaldo, he insisted no talks have taken place.

However, he also hinted at seperate moves for Ronaldo and Osimhen between Napoli and Manchester United even if it might be a tough deal to agree.

Should the pieces fall into place then it could see Ronaldo feature against Rangers in the Champions League this season.

Asked if he'd like to add a 'blue CR7 shirt to his collection', Spalletti said: “Anyone would want to have one of his shirts, for whatever team he played for. I’d like it if he played here…”

On coaching Ronaldo in his side if an unlikely deal was reached, Spalletti told TuttoNapoli: “If you’re asking me, ‘would you like to coach him?’ I’d like to see the coach who would pass up something you could tell people for your whole life. But like his agent said there have been no talks.

“I spoke to ADL (president Aurelio De Laurentiis) and he said nothing real has come in and there aren’t many days (of the window) left so I think it’d be hard to do a deal like that.

“That’s what I think, after that you should listen to (sporting director Cristiano) Giuntoli."

And further quizzed on the linked swap deal, Spalletti explained: "It would not be an exchange, but two operations.

"We are talking about someone who has won more Champions Leagues and scored more goals than anyone, he has the qualities play anywhere on the pitch, he ‘s someone who solves things even on his own

“But let's analyse what we have and what can give us a further good performance in a difficult place to go like Florence, and what Osimhen and the other leaders of this team have to do there.”
