LEE CONNELLY admits he didn't know how to celebrate at Ibrox as he stunned Rangers and savoured a strike to remember.

The 22-year-old netted the most high-profile goal of his career on Tuesday night but couldn't inspire Queen of the South to a League Cup shock.

Connelly capitalised on a mistake from Fashion Sakala and produced a terrific dinked finish to beat Allan McGregor and pull the visitors level after Robbie Ure's opener.

But a Scott Arfield brace ultimately won it for Rangers as Willie Gibson's side took credit for their performance in a battling defeat.

"It was alright," Connelly said. "It just came to me and I hit it. A goal is a goal, isn’t it? It was good to score here.

"I didn’t know where to look. I just done my usual and stuck my tongue out and stuck my hands up. It was alright.

"I tried to look round at [the Queens fans] but I don’t think I could have made the full length of the pitch.

"My calves were killing me in the first half! It was good for them and hopefully they enjoyed it."

Queens equipped themselves well as the quality from Rangers eventually proved too much for them on the night at Ibrox.

Now the focus is back on their League One promotion push after a difficult start to the season that has seen them collect just five points from as many games.

Connelly told QoS TV: "It is disappointing to lose the game but I think we showed more like we are about and dealt with the situation a bit better compared to Saturday. We need to take that into next Saturday against Dunfermline.

"Our focus is on the league and we have not had the best of starts. So that has to start now on Saturday and go on a run hopefully.

"It has been a poor start and we all know that. We are hurting in the games we have not performed. I think we need to go on a run. Every team does get a run and hopefully it will start this Saturday."
