GIOVANNI VAN BRONCKHORST admits Rangers cannot afford to repeat their Old Firm horror show after falling five points adrift in the Premiership title race.

Celtic cruised to a comfortable 4-0 victory at Parkhead as Liel Abada netted either side of a Jota strike in the first half and David Turnbull completed the rout late on.

Ange Postecoglou's side remain unbeaten on league duty this term and could have won by a greater margin as Rangers produced an abject Old Firm defeat showing.

A trip to Ajax to kick-off their Champions League campaign is next on the agenda for Van Bronckhorst after a demoralising derby defeat that raised questions on and off the park at Ibrox.

And the Dutchman knows a series of costly individual and collective mistakes must be eradicated as a matter of priority if Rangers are to bounce back and enjoy a successful season this term.

Van Bronckhorst said: "Those moments in the first half decide the game. The longer the 0-0 is on the scoreboard the more you can grow. That wasn’t the case.

"I’m disappointed with the result and the goals. I'm disappointed we couldn’t give the game we wanted for our fans.

"We have lost five points, there is still a lot to be played for with three games against Celtic, we have to move on get stronger and make sure the moments we had today can never happen again, no matter which opposition we play.

"Of course [the result] is not good for the confidence. You should feel the way we all do.

"You can’t look forward to Wednesday, everyone needs to learn and reflect. The same for me.

"We are feeling very disappointed and [on Sunday] we have to work forward to concentrate on Ajax.

"We’ve done it (learned from defeats) before. It’s only one game. We have to go forward and make sure we can close the gap of five points."
