CELTIC hero John Hartson has offered Giovanni van Bronckhorst his backing as he slammed the "overreaction" to Rangers' derby loss.

The Ibrox side fell to a 4-0 defeat at Celtic Park on Saturday leaving Rangers trailing their Glasgow rivals by five points in the Scottish Premiership table.

But Hartson has ruled out any suggestion that Van Bronckhorst faces "serious questions" over his position after the defeat.

Speaking on Go Radio, Harton insisted there has been a huge "overreaction" to the loss but conceded the Rangers boss may have been "naive".

Quizzed on possible big questions on Van Bronckhorst, Hartson said: "You cannot say that.

"The manager took you to a European final a couple of months ago, Rangers have been beaten by the better team on the day.

"Celtic are a different animal under Ange, it’s very difficult to go to Celtic Park and gets wins.

"You’ve (Rangers) been beaten really comfortably.

"Yes you can talk about being a bit naive but you cannot be calling for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s head after six league games.

"I just don’t agree with the fact that you are trying to out the manager after six league game, there has been an overreaction to one result."
