RYAN JACK has apologised to Rangers supporters after the heavy Champions League defeat to Ajax.

The midfielder - a half-time substitute for the match - gifted Ajax a fourth in the group stage opener but took full responsibility as he said sorry to the travelling Ibrox support after the dire display.

In truth, the match was over at the break before Jack was even on the pitch with Edson Alvarez, Steven Berghuis and Mohammed Kudus putting Ajax in a comfortable lead.

And in an honest reflection on BT Sport, Jack said: "We have let a lot of people down tonight.

"We apologise to the fans who sacrificed to make this trip and come support us.

"All we can do is apologise, move on and hopefully come Saturday we are ready to get the win."

Rangers head to Pittodrie on Saturday in the Scottish Premiership after back-to-back 4-0 losses to Celtic and Ajax.

And Jack has demanded the Rangers squad and staff band together and ensure a much-improved performance and result at the weekend.

"Obviously everyone is disappointed and rightly so, so we should be," said Jack.

"All we can do is pick ourselves up, pick the bones out the game and pick ourselves up because we have got a massive game coming up on Saturday away to Aberdeen.

"We know how tough a venue that'll be so on the back of the last two defeats it's important that we pick ourselves up, learn quickly and get ready to put it right on Saturday.

"When you lose two four-nils on the bounce it does affect you personally, individually and collectively.

"It's important we come out on Saturday and show a lot of fight about us.

"The last two games it's been tough, there's no doubt.

"But what I would say is the fight and determination and desire, all that's going to be needed on Saturday because the games are coming thick and fast and we don't have time to feel sorry for ourselves. We need to pick ourselves up, stick together and go again."

While Jack reiterated the need to stick together as a group - a message echoed by Giovanni van Bronckhorst at half-time - he took full responsibility for the fourth Ajax strike after his slack backpass allowed Steven Bergwijn to slot home.

On the team-talk at the break, Jack explained: "It was mostly stick together.

"Stick together, try and keep a clean sheet second-half. Try and pose more of a threat to their box and their goal.

"Obviously I give the fourth goal away and I take responsibility for that.

"I play a blind pass and obviously it's gone by Connor the guy goes round Jon and scores so I take full responsibility for that but I'll be working as hard as I can to make sure come the weekend I'm ready to go."

Jack went on to reveal Van Bronckhorst's message to the squad after the final whistle as he insisted the tough welcome to the Champions League is a lesson the Rangers squad must learn from instantly.

He added: "It's a top level. This is the highest level.

"The manager has said there if we're going to compete at this level that's a welcome for us because that's probably one of the best teams I've played against and I've sat and watched from the bench.

"For me we just need to learn quickly, there's no time to dwell and feel sorry.

"It's just pick ourselves up and go again."
