RANGERS have been slaughtered for their dreadful performance against Ajax.

The Dutch media have been less than complimentary about Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his side.

One outlet branded the Ibrox club "lucky" that the score was only 3-0 at the break.

The Champions League group opener would end 4-0, with Edson Alvarez, Steven Berghuis, Mohammed Kudus and Steven Bergwijn notching the goals.

The Dutch giants were clearly a cut above the Premiership side.

It's the second heavy defeat in a matter of days for van Bronckhorst, as the inquest begins into where it all went wrong.

Rubbing salt into the wounds of Rangers, Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf has branded Rangers' players as "drunken Scots."

Reporter Mike Verweij described it as a "beautiful result" for Ajax.

And while he was full of praise for Ajax, it was the complete opposite for Rangers - who were torn to shreds.

He wrote: "After a short scanning phase, the team from Amsterdam set off in the atmospheric Johan Cruijff ArenA.

"The opening goal of Edson Alvarez, who headed in after seventeen minutes from a corner from Steven Berghuis, was the signal for a gala performance.

"In it, the drunken Scots were lucky that it was 'only' 3-0 at half time."
