KENNY Miller and Alan Hutton have both backed Allan McGregor to once again become the Rangers' number one goalkeeper.

The former Ibrox men feel their ex-teammate more than deserves to once again become the main man in goal for the Light Blues.

Jon McLaughlin has commanded the first team spot so far this season, but after the 40-year-old's heroics against Napoli, both pundits feel the former Scotland international should be one of the first names on the teamsheet going forward.

"We said it in the Europa League final – had it not been for five incredible penalties from Frankfurt then you’d have backed Rangers to win it with that man in goal. His two saves were outstanding," said Miller after the match.

“Out opinions aren’t relevant, its up to Gio. But when you put in player and they perform to that level, it’s hard to replace them.”

Hutton had the same opinion as he stated: “How often does he come up with those moments?

"I sit here personally and I question the decision that was made at the start of the season for him not to be playing.

“If McLaughin was fit he’d have played tonight. The manager made his decision from day one.

"Even after conceding eight in two games, he has to stand by his decision.

“He’s done that until the injury. But McGregor has come in tonight and shown he is a number one. He’s there for the big moments. He has to keep his place.”
