FORMER Aberdeen defender Calvin Ramsay has been praised by Liverpool teammate Joe Gomez.

The Reds central defender has called the young Scot a 'talented player.'

It is has been a tough start to the 19-year-old's career down south as he has been nursing an injury that kept him out of pre-season.

He moved from the Dons to the Merseyside club for £4.5 million during the summer transfer window.

This was a club record fee for Jim Goodwin's side and it is money that could rise to as much as £8 million with add-ons.

He is yet to make his senior debut for Jurgen Klopp's team and it is thought he will mostly be used in the cup competitions this season.

The knock picked up by the right-back has meant Gomez has been playing back up in the position to first choice Trent Alexander-Arnold.

However, he appears to be nearing a chance to play in the first team and the England international has nothing but good things to say about the youngster.

He told the Liverpool website: “Calvin seems like a really down-to-earth lad. Obviously, we weren’t able to mix with him in training in pre-season, which was unfortunate, but hopefully he’s nearly there in overcoming that little issue and I think we’re all excited to see him play.

“He’s obviously a talented player, which is why he’s at this club, and from what he’s like around the place, he seems a nice, humble lad. We’re looking forward to seeing him getting involved on the pitch.”
