IT will be a "big ask" for Rangers to get a positive result against Liverpool tonight.

That's the view of Ibrox legend Ally McCoist.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side take on the Premier League giants at Anfield on matchday three of the Champions league.

The Reds have yet to hit top form so far this season. In fact, Jurgen Klopp's side have been quite poor as far as their standards go.

However, the recent Champions League and Premier League winners remain firm favourites to win tonight's tie.

Rangers have gained several impressive result in Europe over the last few years.

And McCoist has pointed to last season's away win against Borussia Dortmund as the benchmark of the levels Rangers will need to perform to if they're to get anything this evening.

He told talkSPORT: “It’s a big ask. It’s a really big ask. It will need a level of performances that we did see last year against Borussia Dortmund so they are capable of it.

“But it's one of these situations where you just think, Liverpool at home, particularly on the big European nights. We are questioning them defensively, however, they’ve still got some players, I think it’s a big ask.”
