STEPHEN ROBINSON reckons a 4-0 defeat was harsh on St Mirren as he rued individual errors and missed chances against Rangers.

The Buddies were unable to complete a dream Old Firm double and follow up on their win over Celtic with a historic victory at Ibrox.

Antonio Colak netted a brace either side of a James Tavernier penalty before Fashion Sakala rounded off the scoring in the closing minutes.

But there were moments for Robinson to reflect on as keeper Allan McGregor made impressive stops either side of the break and held a Marcus Fraser header in the first half.

And the Saints boss believes the final outcome wasn’t a true reflection of the game as their fine run came to an end at Ibrox.

Robinson said: “It might sound daft to say it wasn’t a 4-0 but at key moments the game went against us.

“It isn’t often you come to Ibrox and have two one-v-ones - Mark O’Hara great save by McGregor and a brilliant save from Alex Grieve in the first half - Curtis Main hit the crossbar, Marcus Fraser is in the box in acres of space and made a better decision.

“So from middle to front I thought there was a lot of really good aspects of play.

“But when you are playing against a team of this calibre, we got punished for mistakes. We got punished for the first goal, for letting people turn, and at the third and fourth we got punished for not keeping players one way and letting them turn.

“There are things we can improve on and be better on but it is difficult to be critical of the players when you are playing against opposition that will punish you for every mistake.

“And we felt like decisions didn’t go our way today at 1-0 and that we can make better decisions in our defensive third.”
