RANGERS suffered late UEFA Youth League heartache against Liverpool this afternoon.

The Reds took control of the section with their dramatic 4-3 win in Glasgow.

While Rangers have been left to wonder 'what if' after losing the game to a wonderful Ben Doak strike inside the final ten-minutes against the ten-men of Liverpool.

The game started in a fast-paced fashion. After some tidy work by ex-Celtic kid Doak, Oakley Cannonier found himself with the ball at his feet, as he slotted home from close-range.

The visitors lead only lasted for a matter of minutes though, as a Charlie Lindsay penalty levelled the score for Rangers.

Within another eight-minutes though and the Reds took the lead once more.

Inside forward Bobby Clark found Melkamu Frauendorf inside the box, who had the composure to slot past Jacob Pazikas.

Things started to calm somewhat, though Liverpool's dominance continued.

On 35-minutes they would score a third, with Cannonier firing home with a brilliant finish. Doak's through-ball for the striker was excellently exescuated.

Liverpool were well in control as the teams headed in for the break.

However, right after half-time, they were reduced to ten-men - which was a huge moment in the match. Lee Jonas was given his marching orders for a foul on Robbie Ure.

Around 15-minutes later, with Rangers ramping up the pressure levels, Aaron Lyall managed to scramble home from close range after his initial effort was saved by the Liverpool goalkeeper.

Zak Lovelace was instrumental in helping to create the opportunity.

And the ex-Millwall academy player would have a huge say in Rangers' equaliser.

He broke down the wing at pace and drove towards the byline inside the box.

His effort came off the post before falling at the feet or Ure, who made no mistake to level matters.

It looked as though all of the momentum was with the 11-men of Rangers at this stage, who rightly found their way back into the game.

However, some tremendous close control and dribbling skills from Doak - who skinned about three Rangers players - eventually saw him inside the box. His shot with the outside of his right boot sailed into the bottom corner, leaving Pazikas with no chance.

It was a highly entertaining affair at Firhill, but not the result Rangers needed.
