Ridvan Yilmaz may have not played a lot of minutes for Rangers, but Kenny Miller believes his brief signs are encouraging.

The Turkish defender signed from Besiktas in his homeland for £3.4m back in July and has only made a handful of appearances since.

Yilmaz started for Rangers against Dundee in the Premier Sports Cup on Wednesday and was a bright spark in a relatively quiet Ibrox display.

Miller was impressed and he hopes the 21-year-old can now kick on.

He told Premier Sports: "With regards to Yilmaz he can only play the games he is given.

"A lot of the noises are that they have been building him up. Maybe the physical side of the Scottish game is taking him a little bit of time getting used to it.

"Let's not forget, he is a young young man moving from Turkey, coming to a different city.

"People don't realise that. It is completely different.

"I went the other way aged 31, not as a 20/21-year-old.

"He is coming to a completely new country, probably on his own, to a massive football club where there are huge demands.

"It is a different style of football as well. You have to take that into consideration.

"Rangers paid £6million for him and you want to see the results, that is natural.

"But within the football club they see him every day and they know exactly where he is at and when he is going to be ready.

"You saw some real signs tonight. I thought he was one of the positive performances.

"I think the reality is Borna Barisic will play at the weekend and moving forward in the Champions League he will probably play as well.

"If the Champions League is dead, maybe the next week you will Yilmaz getting a chance to play at that elite level of football."
