OUTSPOKEN veteran Dutch coach Aad de Mos has branded Rangers defenders 'stupid' as he discussed Ajax's failed Champions League campaign.

Rangers face the Dutch champions in the final game of the group next month and are still only three points behind them despite losing every game and being thrashed 4-0 in the opening encounter in Amsterdam.

But since then, Ajax have lost all of their games too including a record 6-1 home thrashing by Napoli and they face Liverpool at home next week.

And former Ajax, PSV Eindhoven, Anderlecht, Werder Bremen and Standard Liege boss de Mos, who is now a TV pundit in the Netherlands, reckons Ajax should use a false No.9 for their remaining two games in the group.

He explained: "I read that Ajax players were talking about how they improved in Europe because they only lost 4-2 in Italy after being hammered 6-1 at home.

"The reason it was only 4-2 was that Napoli took all of their best players off.

"Ajax did look better when Brian Brobbey came on as a sub. He is very good at holding up the ball and it is difficult for defenders to play against him.

"And he can bring Steven Berghuis, Dusan Tadic and Davy Klaassen into attack.

"He is a far better option than Mohammed Kudus, who will get only some joy against stupid defenders like Rangers have who will run with him and leave spaces.

"But against quality defenders at Napoli, they are far too clever for that."
