NEIL LENNON could be replaced by former Rangers star Shota Arveladze as manager of Omonia Nicosia.

The former Celtic and Hibs boss was axed this week after just seven months in charge of the Cypriot club, despite twice coming close to drawing with Manchester United in the group stages of the Europa League and winning the Cypriot Cup.

The club are currently thrashing out compensation with Lennon, but have stressed they want to make an early appointment for his replacement.

And reports on the Mediterranean island have suggested they have already interviewed Arveladze, who was sacked by Hull City earlier this month and is currently without a club.

The 49-year-old Georgian spent four years at Rangers and won five major trophies with the Ibrox side.

Since moving into management, Arveladze has been in charge of Turkish clubs Kayserispor, Kasımpasa and Trabzonspor, Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv and Uzbekistan outfit Pakhtakor Tashkent before an eight-month stint in charge of Hull ended with his dismissal.

And he could be set to replace Lennon at Omonia.
