RANGERS hero Kris Boyd reckons a possible Ibrox return for Steven Gerrard would be a non-starter.

The Liverpool legend was sacked as manager of Aston Villa last week and is now on the hunt for a new position.

With pressure mounting on current Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst, some have touted Gerrard for a Govan return. But Boyd reckons this would be a mistake.

Asked if it was a possibility, he told Sky Sports: “No, I don’t think so. I think Steven has come up and done the job he needed to do in Scotland. He stopped Celtic from winning 10IAR.

"Moved on and it wasn’t meant to be at Aston Villa. Hopefully, you will see him back because he is an iconic figure of the game and you want to see him manage.”

Boyd admitted on Saturday that van Bronckhorst is under huge pressure as the Light Blues failed to defeat Livingston at the weekend.

He added: “He could struggle to keep his job if it stays the same as it is now.

"You have to fear for Giovanni van Bronckhorst if Rangers don't turn this around.

“They are not playing great football. They are now behind.

“Against Livingston. No disrespect to Livingston, they will cause you problems.

“Rangers should not be losing to Livingston.

“It is a big 45 minutes for Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Rangers Football Club.”
