A FORMER Ajax ace has launched an astonishing "life-threatening" attack on Rangers' pitch.

Theo Janssen slammed the Ibrox surface after defender Owen Wijndal was forced off injured in the Champions League clash.

The full-back had to be subbed off after he tripped and fell into advertising boards in the 3-1 win for the Eredivisie side.

Wijndal's momentum carried him off the playing surface and down the slope on the edge of the pitch into the boards.

And Janssen slammed the fairly common pitchside layout as he branded it "life-threatening".

The ex-Ajax player commented: "That is very normal in England and Scotland - those pitches all drain unbelievably.

"It is good for the pitch, because the water drains better, but it is life-threatening for a player."

But Wijndal played down fears of a serious injury to his ankle after the match.

He explained: "It's the same ankle as at the beginning of this season, when I was out for quite a while.

"But I have to say it doesn't feel so bad right now.

"We put a lot of ice on it and I hope that swelling goes away soon. This injury is sour, but I need to get fit quickly now."
