Kevin Muscat has been backed to become Rangers' own version of Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou.

Sydney FC manager Steve Corica reckons the ex-Ibrox player could be an excellent candidate to replace Giovanni van Bronckhorst should the Dutchman be moved on from his position.

The Australian has been touted to potentially take on the job as No.1 at Rangers.

He took over Yokohama F. Marinos after Postecoglou's departure for Celtic.

He won last season's J-League title, carrying on from the Hoops gaffer's impressive work in Japan.

Corica says Muscat would love to challenge of going up against his old mentor in Glasgow.

He told the media: “I wouldn’t be surprised if Kevin’s being linked with Rangers.

“He’s just won the J-League in Japan while he’s also won the A-League here.

“Kevin’s very capable, he’s a very good coach and I know he’s very thorough in what he does.

“Wherever he’s gone, he’s won trophies. I have no doubt he would do a great job at Rangers.

“It’d be fascinating. Kevin took over from Ange at Melbourne Victory and had a very successful period there too.

“He’s followed Ange to Yokohama and won the league, just like Ange.

“Both of them are doing very well and I think both of them are helping Australian coaches as well.

“In the J-League, they have both won trophies. Ange has moved on to Scotland and has won trophies there.

“That’s only helping the Australian coaches. There are a lot of good Australian coaches around.

“I think that’s maybe paving the way for others to follow Ange and Kevin.

“Of course Kevin would take on Ange. He’s very competitive. He’s a fiery character and very good at his job.

“I’m sure one day he probably will end up at Rangers. Yes he could do what Ange has, why not?

“Kevin took over Yokohama after Ange. He had a lot of turnaround of players.

“But he went on and won the league, so I’m sure Kevin could do a great job at Rangers.”
