CHARLIE NICHOLAS has urged Rangers to appoint Sean Dyche as their new manager.

The Ibrox club are on the hunt for a new boss after they parted ways with Giovanni van Bronckhorst yesterday.

The Dutchman was axed after a string of poor results in Europe and in the league and the Govan outfit now have the three-week World Cup break to find his successor.

Former assistant Michael Beale is currently the favourite for the position, but Nicholas believes ex-Burnley boss Dyche would be the answer to current woes.

Writing in the Daily Express, he said: "I reckon he would embed himself in the fabric of the club. And Dyche certainly gets the dressing room behind him, as we saw when he was Burnley boss.

"He'd be harder on the players and that's what these players require. It is not about their fitness, although Alfredo Morelos does need to take a look at himself.

"Dyche has proven he doesn't need the most flamboyant players to get the best out of them.

"He likes honest, hardworking guys and showed at the Clarets that he can turn average players into first-rate English Premier League defenders.

"I'm talking about guys like Ben Mee - now of Brentford - and James Tarkowski, who moved on to Everton.

"Dyche has the capacity to build something. While it might not be a style fans love, he'd give the team a strong identity."

Kenny Miller believes QPR boss Beale should feature prominently on the shortlist to replace Van Bronckhorst as Rangers manager.

Beale was a highly-regarded coach under Gerrard at Ibrox and more recently at Aston Villa before branching out on his own to become QPR boss in June.

Former Ibrox striker Miller feels the 42-year-old – who has emerged as the odds-on favourite with bookmakers – is the standout option to succeed Van Bronckhorst.

“There’s loads of names that spring to mind, you’ve got the likes of Sean Dyche who’s got connections to (Rangers sporting director) Ross Wilson, the same with Ralph Hasenhuttl,” Miller told Sky Sports.

“One for me that would be right at the top of the list would be Michael Beale. His name’s been bandied about over the last month while Rangers have been toiling.

“I think he fits, he knows the club, he knows the players. There would be no surprises with him walking back into the building in terms of the demands and the expectations of the football club and he’s started off his own journey as a manager pretty well as well so I think he’d be right at the top of the list.”
