LEE WALLACE would be a "great shout" to return to Rangers in a backroom team role should Michael Beale be appointed, a former team-mate has claimed.

Dominic Ball has name-dropped pal Wallace for a potential return to Glasgow in a coaching role as Michael Beale nears sealing an Ibrox move.

Beale has been the favourite to take over after Giovanni van Bronckhorst was dismissed from his post on Monday.

And while there has been no official news from Ibrox, it's widely considered that Beale is closing in on a return to Rangers.

Now, attention has turned to who Beale would bring with him if he does land the top job at Ibrox.

And Ipswich midfielder Ball reckons his former Rangers and QPR team-mate should be considered to help out Beale in Glasgow.

Wallace does have experience in coaching with both Tynecastle FC and as an under-20 assistant coach at Kelty Hearts.

“Lee spoke very highly of Michael Beale and Lee is someone whose opinion I really respect," said Ball speaking to the Daily Record.

“Lee would be a great shout if Michael is looking for someone who knows the club to join his backroom staff. I can’t speak highly enough of Lee.

"I still speak to him now. I know he’s taking some time to study the game.

"I know he’d go in there and give everything he’s got trying to help Rangers be as good as they can be.”

Wallace spent one season working under Steven Gerrard and Beale at Rangers before moving to London club QPR where he finished his playing career.

The full-back spent eight years at Ibrox as a player having joined from Hearts for £1.5million in 2011.

Wallace remained at Rangers after the club's administration and subsequent demotion to the Third Division.

He also served as captain at the club and was a fan favourite among the Rangers support.
