Kris Boyd has aimed a sly dig at QPR following Michael Beale's appointment at Rangers.

The former Ibrox striker reckons the Englishman has "one eye" on a return to Glasgow.

The ex-Scotland star cheekily stated that Beale would've been looking to his future after the R's recent slump in form prior to the World Cup break.

Beale has signed a deal until 2026 at Ibrox as he sealed an emotional return to the club.

He served as Steven Gerrard's first team coach for three-and-a-half years from 2018 until last season.

He left with Gerrard for Aston Villa before taking on the QPR gig in his first role as a manager.

His impressive work there, as well as his background knowledge of the club, led to Rangers coming calling after Giovanni van Bronckhorst's departure.

Beale's appointment comes just six-weeks after he knocked back the Wolves job in favour of staying at Loftus Road, as he stated he was invested in the longer-term project at the west-London club.

Those claims have now angered the QPR fans after today's news.

And Boyd lapped it up while appearing on Sky Sports.

Asked about the QPR fans being annoyed over the move, he smiled down the camera.

Boyd said: "Every appointment is a gamble or a risk, whatever way you want to look at it. He has only had 20 odd games as a manager but he has been involved in football for a long, long time.

"He has coached in different countries, but it brings it's own risk when you go out on your own. I'm sure QPR fans would have been saying the same things in the summer.

"He has never been a manager before, it's a risk, and taking over from Mark Warburton with the job he has done. But he went in there and started the season really well, albeit the last few games it's not been.

"I think there has probably been other things on Mick Beale's mind. He was up at Ibrox a couple of weeks ago.

"He has probably had one eye on this. I know he has been very vocal on why he turned down Wolves, but Rangers is a special football club. It plays with your heart strings, and he feels as if he can go and turn it around."
