ALLY MCCOIST this morning enraged his talkSPORT colleagues as he admitted he'd be supporting Wales against England at the World Cup.

The two UK sides will go head-to-head in Qatar tonight with both nations still in with a chance of making the knockout stages.

To guarantee progression, Wales would have to beat England by four goals and knock out the rival home nation in the process.

England will go through should they avoid a four-goal loss. But there's a chance both teams could go through if Wales were to win and Iran draw with USA.

talkSPORT host Laura Woods was detailing the ramifications of tonight's match when she asked McCoist who he would be backing.

To her surprise, Rangers hero McCoist sheepishly admitted he'd favour a Wales triumph - even if he's hopeful both countries progress.

Probed on who he'd support in Qatar, McCoist said: "I nearly said I don't care, that might sound flippant.

"I tell you the Gospel truth I still want both teams to go through.

"I'll be leaning more toward Wales.

"Wait you see the daggers I am getting from the production boys."

Woods and the rest of the talkSPORT team were left reeling by the admission with the presenter disappointed with McCoist's admission.

Woods said: "I thought the answer would be England of course."

The broadcaster then went on to read out listeners' comments calling out McCoist over his Wales support.

One listener commented: "Hope McCoist is flying back with Dean Saunders," and another added: "Ally I have loved you this tournament but that is disgraceful."

McCoist was also compared to Scooby Doo over his 'confusion' on where his support lies with another comment citing his support for Scotland, the England cricket team and now Wales at the World Cup.

But McCoist was unphased by the criticism as he added: "I'm getting nailed. I'm sticking to my guns."

England currently sit top of Group B after a 6-2 win over Iran and a goalless draw against USA.

Wales took a point in their opener against USA but fell to a late defeat to Iran in their second match of the tournament.
