Ex-Celtic defender Jeremie Frimpong is "keen" on a move to Manchester United.

This is according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who made the claim on his Youtube channel.

The Dutchman, who is currently in Qatar representing his country at the World Cup, has been the subject of much speculation after his excellent performances for Bayer Leverkusen this season.

He moved to the Bundesliga club in January 2021 and has built on his already strong pedigree by adding Champions League experience to his CV over the last few months.

The Hoops gained a fee of around £11 million for the player and still retain a percentage sell-on clause.

Speaking on a live stream, Romano said: "The price tag of Frimpong is around £25 million. Bayer Leverkusen wants to keep the player, not an easy one.

"What we can say is that Frimpong would be really keen, Frimpong would love Premier League football in general, and Manchester United in this case"

The right-back has five goals and three assists in 21 appearances this season and could still earn his first international cap at the tournament in Qatar.

Meanwhile, Kyogo Furuhashi has revealed his motivation to perform for Celtic after his shock international snub for Japan this summer.

The Parkhead striker was left out of his national team's plans for the World Cup in Qatar and he spoke of his frustrations after the squad was announced.

Only Daizen Maeda of Celtic was called up for Japan, but they have starred with wins over Spain and Germany cementing a spot in the last 16 of the tournament.

They are preparing for to take on Croatia today, but Kyogo admits it has been mixed feelings watching his country compete on the greatest football stage of them all.

He told The Athletic: “My family and friends have been very supportive.

"Even though they're not all here in Glasgow, they've been a huge support to me and I think a player with that experience can only get stronger.

"I would like to develop further and I will also come out of this experience strengthened."
