Goalkeeper Angus Gunn could be set to switch his international allegiances from England to Scotland, according to reports.

The Norwich City No1 has already featured for England at U21 level, but he would qualify for Scotland through his father Bryan, who received six national team caps in the early 1990s.

The Sun report that Gunn could answer SOS calls with Steve Clarke on the hunt for a new starting goalkeeper with Craig Gordon ruled out with a double leg break.

After featuring for England all the way through youth levels Gunn had hoped to force his way into the senior squad to challenge Jordan Pickford.

But this now looks unlikely with Aaron Ramsdale, Nick Pope and Dean Henderson all ahead of him in the queue for Gareth Southgate's side.

Clarke checked on the availability of Gunn when he first joined as Scotland manager, but at the time his request was declined.

Hearts goalkeeper Zander Clark, Motherwell No1 Liam Kelly and Rangers No2 Jon McLaughlin have all been in and around the Scotland set up in recent seasons.

Meanwhile, Craig Gordon insists he knows “what lies ahead” as he steeled himself for his latest attempt to fight back from serious injury.

The Hearts number one, 40, suffered a double leg break in a 2-2 draw with Dundee United on Christmas Eve and spent Christmas Day in hospital in Dundee undergoing surgery.

Gordon, who fought back from a career-threatening knee injury which kept him out for two years between 2012 and 2014, shared his thoughts publicly for the first time since his season-ending injury in an Instagram post.

“I’ve played this game long enough to know that I can’t take anything for granted, and when I’ve been ‘written off’ with injuries before, every game is one more than at times, I thought I might get,” he posted.

“I know what lies ahead as I’ve walked this road before and I’ll do it again, albeit on crutches for now.

“Our medical team did a great job on the pitch. The staff and surgeons at Ninewells Hospital who performed my surgery on Christmas Day, and all those who looked after me were brilliant.

“The club, my teammates and everyone who has sent messages for my family and I, you have all helped in giving me the best start to my recovery and I’m truly grateful.

“40 tomorrow, I’ve not done too bad considering! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I’ll see you soon, CG.”
