Rangers are reportedly interested in a move for Everton midfielder Tom Davies.

The Englishman is the latest player linked with a switch to Ibrox as Michael Beale looks to make his first signings as manager.

Davies, who is seemingly not in Toffees boss Frank Lampard’s plans, has only started five games all season and sees his contract expire in June.

Tom Davies Background

Having made his debut in the 2015/16 season, the Liverpool-born player memorably scored his first goal for his boyhood club in Everton’s shock 4-0 win over Manchester City in January 2017.

A year later he became the youngest player to captain the side when he wore the armband in an EFL Cup tie with Rotherham.

The ex-England U21 international has played 145 Premier League games but has seen his appearances prove scarce in the past two seasons.

What kind of player is Rangers target Tom Davies?

The 24-year-old has operated in several midfield roles throughout his career, playing as a ball-winner, a number eight and even as an attacking midfielder on occasion.

This jack-of-all trades status may have hindered Davies, who will look to nail down a starting place for the sake of his career, even if that means moving away from Merseyside.

If that move was to Rangers, he would face competition in the middle of the park.

Despite the loss of Steven Davis to a season-ending injury, John Lundstram, Ryan Jack, Glen Kamara and Scott Arfield are all vying for a place in the starting 11 in which Davies can operate.

What did Rangers boss Michael Beale say about him?

The Rangers boss did not rule out a move for the Englishman when asked about links with Davies and another midfielder in Norwich’s Todd Cantwell.

Speaking after his side’s 2-0 win at Tannadice, the manager said: “No names, but I think they are both good players to be fair.

“Tom Davies used to kick my Liverpool Under 23s team all around the place. There’s a bit of John Lundstram about him. But again, two really good players.

“Not confirming anything with those two. But there are a lot of players we are speaking to at the moment.”
