Celtic's bid to sign Cho Gue-sung has reportedly hit somewhat of a roadblock.

The in-demand striker is supposedly willing to dig his heels in and stay at Jeonbuk if he cannot secure a transfer to Mainz this month.

The Hoops are believed to have offered around £3million for the South Korea international.

Their bid includes a whopping 50 per cent sell-on fee on any future sale up to the value of £5.3million.

However, Four Four Two Korea report that it would appear Cho's preference would be to sign for Bundesliga side Mainz - and that he would rather stay put in the K-League if a move there does not materialise.

The German club are also heavily involved in the transfer tussle for the 24-year-old.

Their report states that Cho's friendship with Lee Jae-sung makes Mainz the favourites to secure his services.

The player is determined to test himself in Europe, meaning Minnesota United's bold attempt to lure him to the States has been ruled out.

Futher reports from Asia claim that Jeonbuk director and former Manchester United ace Park Ji-Sung is advising Cho to wait until the summer before making a decision on his future.

While this could prove to be a stumbling block for Celtic in their search for a new striker, Giorgos Giakoumakis still looks to be on his way out of Parkhead.

Urawa Red Diamonds and Sampdoria both want the Greek forward and a deal could be in place in the coming days.
