Michael Beale has slated Kilmarnock's pitch following Rangers' 3-2 victory at Rugby Park.

The Ibrox outfit came from behind to take all three points as they continued to a good run of form in the Scottish Premiership.

Beale was delighted to gain the three points, but he was not overly impressed with the standard of the fixture, and he puts that down to the surface.

He told Rangers TV: "It was never going to be a beauty contest because of the surface.

"I have never seen a good game on this surface and Kilmarnock made the game extremely tough."

In a barnstorming Killie start to the cinch Premiership encounter, defender Chris Stokes headed in from a corner after six minutes only for Rangers’ Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos to level midway through the first half.

Ryan Kent struck six minutes after the break before Kilmarnock winger Danny Armstrong was sent off by referee Kevin Clancy for picking up the second of two yellow cards for an elbow in the face of left-back Borna Barisic.

Morelos headed in his second from a Barisic cross in the 73rd minute but Killie pulled a goal back in the 85th minute through defender Joe Wright to ensure a nervy ending.

Beale continued: "Killie came right for us and we were slow out of the changing room starting the game. We told them what to expect and unfortunately we didn't heed that warning.

"Fortunately, we did grow in the game and afterwards, we scored a fantastic equaliser and in the second half we were excellent for long periods, getting ourselves 3-1 up and maybe should have taken more opportunities.

"Then we give away a silly free-kick and don't compete for the second ball. It's a great strike from the lad to be fair and it's the same old story in the last five minutes with heart in your mouth time.

"We need to get over that. The story tonight is coming here and getting three points. We had 120 tough minutes, mentally and physically at the weekend.

"The players now are doing the best they can to win football matches. We have just reached a final and have a really big cup game at the weekend. All we can do is keep being Rangers and improving.

"We will add to the squad in this window which will be exciting for everybody when those players arrive. We have to focus on what's happening at Rangers.

"We have been to places like this, we have been away to Pittodrie, at Tannadice and picked up big three points. The schedule has been quite tough and we are navigating it quite well at the moment."
